Energy absolutely fascinates me. When I was younger I was an avid athlete and moving dynamically brought me great joy. Early in my college years my body began to break down and ultimately I ended up having to have 20+ surgeries and lost the ability to engage that energy I so loved. When I turned to painting and creativity as part of my treatment plan, I realized I could still spend time with the subject of energy, just in a bit more creative way. As the concept of The Land of Ardithian began to evolve, and my own style emerged, dynamic movement and energy were absolute markers for how I wanted to create and what I wanted to express.

As a person of faith and also one of science, I began to research forms of energy, how they were structured, how they moved, and which ones were visible to humans. Light energy is the only one we can see, and that fact led me to considering an imaginary world were other forms of energy were part of the visual experience. Technically, it was challenging, but as the world developed and I creatively began to describe the atmospheres I knew I needed to capture the differences between what they looked like based on color and structure. These paintings are the result of that fascination and they express not only the atmosphere in each part of The Land of Ardithian but also the energetic force of how it moves.

As an abstract, contemporary art painter I chose to honor my love of energy and expression in a complex way but also adapted each to define what the fantasy world would look and feel like. These paintings define the visual and the narrative describes each as the series evolves. Every type of energy you see here plays a pivotal role in what the characters experience and must overcome. The collection and technical rendering was delightful to problem solve and absolutely challenges the viewer to engage.
